Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record, saying the broad-based government has delivered more tangible projects compared to the previous administrations.

Speaking during a church service at Kirigara Methodist Church in Central Imenti in Meru County today, Kindiki dismissed criticism directed at the government by the opposition insisting that ongoing infrastructure, healthcare and electricity projects across the country are clear evidence of its commitment to improving the lives of Kenyans.

The Deputy President noted major national development programmes were progressing steadily despite economic challenges, citing the ongoing modernisation of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital as one of the flagship projects transforming healthcare services in the region.

He maintained that even those demanding more government projects acknowledge that the current administration has recorded remarkable achievements within a short period.

Prof. Kindiki said the government’s focus remains on fulfilling the promises it made to Kenyans through accelerated investments in roads, health, education, electricity connectivity and agricultural development.

He said the administration would not be distracted by political criticism, adding that its priority is to complete ongoing projects that will spur economic growth and improve livelihoods across the country.

The Deputy President highlighted the construction of more than 6,000 kilometres of roads across the country, describing it as one of the largest infrastructure expansion programmes ever undertaken within such a short period.

He also pointed to the ongoing nationwide electricity connectivity programme, saying thousands of households, schools, health centres and trading centres are being connected to the national grid, opening up opportunities for businesses and improving living standards in rural areas.

According to Prof. Kindiki, no previous administration had rolled out road construction and electricity connection projects on such a scale within a comparable timeframe.

He urged Kenyans to support the government’s development agenda, saying the benefits of the projects would be felt for generations through improved transport networks, easier access to markets, better healthcare and enhanced economic opportunities.

Addressing concerns over the delayed reconstruction of the notorious Nithi Bridge along the Meru-Embu highway, Prof. Kindiki assured residents that the project remains a government priority.

The second in command further explained that the delay had been occasioned by the ongoing compensation process for landowners whose property will be affected by the redesigning and rerouting of the bridge.

The Deputy President said the government was keen to ensure that all affected residents receive fair compensation before construction begins, noting that the process must comply with the law to avoid future disputes.

He expressed confidence that once the compensation exercise is completed, work on the new bridge will commence without further delays.

Prof. Kindiki assured the public that the new design would significantly enhance road safety and improve transport along the busy Meru-Embu route.

During the church service, the Deputy President also fulfilled a pledge he had made earlier to support the pastoral work of the Methodist Church.

He handed over a brand-new vehicle to the Bishop of the Methodist Church Synod, Rt. Rev. Doreen Mwathe, to facilitate evangelism and outreach programmes across the region.

He said faith-based organisations remain key partners in promoting moral values, peace, education and community development, adding that the government will continue working closely with religious institutions to foster national unity and social transformation.

Bishop Mwathe thanked the Deputy President for honouring his commitment, saying the vehicle would greatly enhance the church’s mission by enabling easier movement to serve congregations spread across different parts of the region.

He was accompanied by Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa, area MP Moses Kirima and Members of the county assembly from the area.
