Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged Kenya’s regulatory authorities and agencies to strengthen coordination and improve decision-making for efficient services to citizens.

Speaking at the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference held at South Eastern Kenya University(SEKU) in Kitui County, Prof. Kindiki emphasized that the effectiveness of these bodies directly reflects the overall performance of the government.

He noted that millions of Kenyans across the country are increasingly demanding better services, including access to clean water, safer infrastructure and efficient public service delivery.

According to the Deputy President, these expectations can only be met through enhanced coordination and a shared commitment to excellence among agencies.

“With 127 regulatory authorities and agencies operating across various State Departments, the government is present wherever standards are set, compliance is enforced, safety is assured and fairness is upheld because Kenyans expect these institutions to execute their mandates with urgency, vigor and transparency,” he said.

Prof. Kindiki warned that duplication of roles and poor coordination among agencies not only delays service delivery but also undermines public trust in government institutions.

He called on leaders of these bodies to streamline operations, share information effectively and adopt a more collaborative approach to governance.

The second in command further cautioned against complacency, noting that laxity within regulatory institutions would ultimately reflect negatively on the state of governance in the country.

“There must be no room for comfort or inefficiency in agencies tasked with safeguarding public interest,” Kindiki added.

The Deputy President underscored the importance of adherence to the Constitution, particularly Article 232, which outlines the values and principles of public service.

He stressed that all public servants must uphold professionalism, accountability and responsiveness in their duties.

“No Kenyan should be mistreated or poorly served by those entrusted with public responsibility. There must be a renewed focus on citizen-centered service delivery,” he said .

The conference brought together leaders and representatives from regulatory bodies across the country to discuss ways of improving performance, enhancing compliance and strengthening institutional frameworks.

The participants also explored strategies to eliminate redundancies and improve inter-agency collaboration.
