The 97th Kenya Music Festival (KMF) has come to a close, with winners showcasing their talents and creativity at a colorful gala held at Meru School.
The two-week event saw an impressive participation of about 140,000 individuals from across the country.
The Director General of the State Department of Education, Dr. Elyas Abdi Jillaow, praised the participants for their remarkable improvement in arts and music.
He further emphasized the importance of promoting arts and creativity in education, citing its potential to transform the nation.
“This noble event completes three of the eight education goals of the Country. We have seen remarkable improvement of items presented” he said
During the closing of the event, KMF Chair Johnson Ngala commended the winners and participants, noting that the festival fosters nationalism, promotes interactions among learners, and encourages individual development goals.
The chairman also called on the institutions to encourage male participation, saying they have been overtaken by female participants.
“The festival had about 140,000 participants, where we had 95,000 female students and 45,000 male students. Lets encourage our male learners and involve them” said the Chairman
He added, “Western region presented the highest number of participants at 22,000 while the most improved was the North Eastern region that presented 1000 participants. Additionally, they were most improved, winning 13 trophies up from five last year”.
The winners will proceed to a state concert at Sagana State Lodge on Saturday, before representing Kenya in an East African competition.
