Education stakeholders have been challenged to ensure they change or improve their marketing strategy in a bid to increase enrollment in institutions of higher learning in the country.

Mount Kenya East region Kenya Association of Technical Training Institute (KATTI) Chairlady and Samburu Technical Training Institute Principal Ms Lucy Mutembei said some of the marketing strategies currently being used by the higher institution of learning are not bearing fruits since a section of youth remain stuck at home due to lack of information.

She called on all the concerned education stakeholders to pull up their socks by introducing a marketing strategy that resonates with the current demands or else continue to record low enrollment figures.

Speaking at Meru National Technical Training institute during a sensitization forum for the TVETs institutions and the National Government  Administration Officers (NGAO), the regional chairlady revealed that she is raising the marketing alarm in TVET’s institutions after only 16 students turned out for the enrollment at Samburu TTI despite a lot sensitization in social media and other forums.

“Our marketing strategy is not bearing fruits as we expected. Unfortunately some of the youth are going back to the villages where we had picked them. Many are still stuck at home due to lack of knowledge. Recently only 16 students turned out for the enrollment at Samburu TTI despite a lot of sensitization being done in social media and other forums. That is why am challenging all the education stakeholders to work harmoniously to enhance enrollment,” said the Chairlady.

She passionately called on NGAO to intervene by ensuring the enrollment within their area of jurisdiction is improved insisting that the best way of getting the expected benefits is simply by enrolling.

Ms Mutembei also urged all the education stakeholders to unite and have a dialogue meant to positively shape the future of TVETs institutions countrywide.

“This is the right time for chiefs and their assistants to step in and reach out to the youth since they  interact with them on daily basis. I urge them to ensure they enroll in the TVETs institutions. We have honestly tried very hard in the area of marketing for the last two years. Unfortunately it has not been good for us. Let NGAO now ensure the youth enroll in the colleges in order to get the expected benefits,” said Ms Mutembei.

She noted that improved enrollment will inevitably lead to enhanced security, economic development, industrialization and a transformed youth capable of confidently and successfully seeking employment both locally and abroad.

The Chairlady lauded President William Ruto for the progress currently being witnessed in the education sector and specifically in the TVETs institutions where unprecedented transformation for the future generation is taking shape.

‘I sincerely laud President William Ruto for the progress currently being witnessed in the education sector. Everybody is aware that unprecedented transformation is taking shape in the TVETs Institutions. President Ruto is the master key of TVET’s institutions. The question is where is the ball and who is stopping us from opening the door to enter and enjoy the benefits. That is why we must hold a conversation,” said Ms Mutembei.

She called on the youth to ensure they register for Kaazi Majuu in order to benefit and lauded the beneficiaries alias “millioneers” for showcasing their achievements.

Ms Mutembei however regretted that only a few youth apply for Kaazi Majuu.
