Dispora Affairs PS Roselyne Njogu has officially sponsored a football tournament in Buuri constituency, Meru County to create awareness amongst youth about government programs locally and abroad.

The tournament which kicked off yesterday will involve men and women aged below 25 years.

The tournament dubbed “KAZI Majuu” (meaning jobs aboard) brings together about 60 teams from across the Buuri subcounty who received ball and football kits.

The talent search not only brought together talent but also enabled the youth to engage and exchange ideas and abstain from drugs.

Njogu said the initiative was also supported by President William Ruto.

She said they are also looking at how they can explore and export sports talents aboard just like they are doing with jobs abroad.

“We want to sensitize the youth that even if your talent is a local talent it has global opportunities,” Njogu said.

She said the tournament was also an initiative to sensitise the residents on how they can apply for global job opportunities using the approved agents and safe job opportunities for the official passport.

‘They will also engage with Diaspora Affairs Ministry and Ministry of labour to ensure safe labour community. More than 530,000 people have been able to secure jobs under the KAZI Majuu initiative in three and a half years,” said the Diaspora PS.

She said last year alone those working abroad were able to remit over 500 billion US dollars while in 2022 they managed 400 billion US dollars proving the programme is working.

The PS spoke to the press on Saturday after witnessing men and women finals of the football tournament at Mitoone primary school.

In the girls tournament Gundua starlets beat Kironya starlets 1-0.

In the men’s final Sirimon FC beat Christian FC 1-0.

Njogu said she will roll out the football tournament across the country.

Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri lauded the Kazi Majuu initiative insisting it provides opportunities to the young people.

The legislator said he aims to help recruit 250 youths from his constituency to the initiative.
