The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in Meru County has hailed the GenZs – led demonstrations saying the action will push the government end what they termed as dictatorial and archaic leadership.
The DCP Meru County coordinator Patrick Murungi said the move was geared towards ending extra judicial killing by the police in the country and not to cause chaos during the peaceful demonstrations
While declaring their efforts a hopeful sign of liberation in the face of deepening socio-economic and political turmoil ,Muriungi however cautioned the young generation to shun from engaging in violence related protests.
“The statement that the tens of thousands of the young people who poured into the streets across Kenya during the Commemoration Day was a sign of unity by a generation that is fighting for their rights and a better nation for their people. Its encouraging that this country which is facing socio-economic and political crisis will finally be liberated from dictatorial, irresponsible and archaic leadership I salute the Gen-Zs for the bold move to save our country from collapsing” said Muriungi.
He however noted that the government must listen to the dissenting voices of the millions and reform.

In the same breath, the coordinator condemned the acts of lawlessness, violence and destruction of property witnessed in Meru county and other parts of the country during the demonstrations .
“It was uncalled for and indeed watered down what the Gen-Zs wanted to achieve. On behalf of the DCP fraternity in Meru County, I call upon our law enforcers to crackdown on the characters who took advantage of the peaceful protests to engage in thuggery and looting of property,” he condemned .
Muriungi observed that violence and destruction was not in the spirit and agenda of the commemoration day, and must be condemned with the strongest terms possible.
He also echoed the efforts by police to contain peace during the protests.
“I commend police officers who demonstrated a lot of restraint even when they were pushed to a tight corner during yesterday’s events across our Nation Kenya. However, we also witnessed the use of excessive force by some rogue police officers. This must stop and stand condemned” he said.
