North Imenti politician Carol Karimi Muriuki, who emerged second in the parliamentary race in 2022, has vowed to floor incumbent MP Rahim Dawood in the 2027 bout.

Speaking in Meru town when she welcomed Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and his entourage, Karimi said the incumbent has failed to deliver to the expectations of the people North Imenti.

“Our MP has become a business partner with the government and is of no help to the electorate,” Karimi said.

She cited various development initiatives, which would be of benefit to North Imenti, but remain unfulfilled under Rahim’s leadership.

“There was a plan to develop the Gikumene-Makutano road into a dual carriage way. The president and the MP have failed because no money has been allocated,” she said.

She said the security situation in Gakoromone area has deteriorated forcing traders to close shop early.

She has previously accused MP Dawood of absconding his duty leading to the constituency missing out on development.

Karimi who came second to Rahim in the 2022 elections said North Imenti has over time lost its past luster in Meru county politics, development and national government appointments.

The politician lamented that the national government project has not delivered much under the current administration.

“It is unfortunate that when President William Ruto toured the region, he could not land in North Imenti because there are no projects. He says there is no money for road projects in the Constituency yet Sh200 million was available to divert a road near KeMU university,” she claimed.

The parliamentary aspirant, further claimed there was nothing much to show for Sh1.4 billion of CDF money supervised by Rahim since 2013.

Karimi also wondered why the recent launch of human-wildlife conflict victims compensation fund avoided North Imenti, whose residents are the most affected.

“The residents of Kithoka, Mbeu, Rwanyange, Gankere and Kambakia have been affected by elephant invasion for years. How many have been compensated for the loss of their loved ones and property?” Karimi posed.

She also accused MP Rahim of failing to fast-track the commissioning of Imenti East Subcounty leading to opportunity losses for residents. She said the incumbent has failed in defending the interests of the constituents calling for his removal in the ballot.

Recently, Rahim defended his track record and said none of his opponents can beat him in the ballot. He advised his opponents to team up and produce a worthy competitor.

“If they can’t come together and produce one candidate, I won’t need to campaign. I will beat them hands down,” Rahim taunted.

Other politicians angling for North Imenti MP seat under DCP are Lawyer Kiogora Mugambi and Patrick Bucha.
