Ghana National soccer team popularly known as the Black Stars won their first game in Group K becoming the second team in the tournament to win their first match.

The Black Stars netted in extra time (90+5) through Caleb Yirenkyi to collect all the three points.

Ghana Coach Carlos Quiroz praised his players for their resilience and quality after the 1-0 win at BMO field.

“The World Cup is very expensive. My team had to suffer and fight for their lives before taking control and imposing their game against a very well organised team with speed and good control of movements,’ Quiroz said.

Ghana is the second team to win this year’s tournament after Ivory Coast defeated Equador 1-0 in their match in Group E.

Ghana now sits in second position after England that leads the group after defeating Croatia 4-2.

Elsewhere in another match Democratic Republic Of Congo managed to secure a 1-1 draw with Portugal.

Portugal were first to score through Joao Neves in the 6th minute.

The DRC then responded through a header from Newcastle Forward Yohan Wissa.

Today South Africa will hope to bounce back after defeat from host Mexico.

The Bafana Bafana will face Czech in their second game which is a must win for both teams if they want to better their chances of remaining in the tournament.
