The Meru County assembly members have cancelled a two week recess to allow for vetting of Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia’s deputy governor and executive members.
The MCAs amended the County assembly calendar that had allowed them to go for a recess until April 22.
This is after Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi tabled the ten county government executive members nominated by governor Mutuma M’Ethingia.
Majority leader Patrick Mutuma told the house that they had serious businesses to handle including vetting County Executive Committee Members, deputy governor Linda Kiome as well as passing the supplementary budget.
Maua MCAs Duncan Kangwana while contributing said they must do away with recess due to important businesses ahead.
“We didn’t have a working government for the last two years under former Governor Kawira Mwangaza. We have to do away with our leisure time to help the governor move with speed to deliver to Meru people,” Kangwana said.
Igoji West MCA Mutembei Mbiuki said the new dispensation of Governor Mutuma must be accorded all necessary support to deliver.
Governor Mutuma has sacked all former Governor Mwangaza’s ministers except Monica Kathono who is an accountant and is expected to head the Finance Docket.
Through a letter sent to Media houses by County Secretary Kiambi Atheru, Mutuma seems to have considered professionalism, experience and exposure in each of the ten dockets.
Jenaro Gatangugi who was the first Governor Peter Munya’s county executive member has been nominated in the Agriculture docket.
Lawyer Marius Maranya who had served as a County Assembly attorney in the first devolved government returns as the Legal Affairs, Public Service management and Administration CEC.
Dr David Bariu, a career educationist who served as a Chief officer in the Munya regime makes a comeback as Roads and Transport executive member.
Health trade unionist Dr Dennis Mugambi has been nominated as CECM in the Health Services.
Former Municipality MCA Elias Murega, once approved, will take charge of the Sports docket.
Others include Isaac Kinoti for Lands, Urban Development and Public Works, Rev. Dr Carol Kaberia is a nominee for Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, Advocate Baptista Kanyaru Muriki will be in charge of water environment and natural resources and Dr Esther Rukunga has been nominated to spearhead Education, Science and Arts docket.
Mutuma has also retained County Secretary Kiambi Atheru in the same capacity and appointed Julius Mbijiwe as the Chief of Staff.
