Residents of Runogone location, Imenti North, are still reeling in shock and disbelief after a 20 year old man hacked his mother to death before an irate mob murdered him in cold blood following a disagreement over a sugarcane.
The son killed his mother by chopping off her head using a panga before throwing the head into the family pit latrine.
An angry crowd pursued and killed him using crude weapons during the 1pm unfortunate incidence.
Speaking to the media, the deceased father Elias Mboya said their son killed his mother after she confronted when she found him eating her sugarcane.
Mboya said his first born son Nimrod Murithi went berserk after being questioned by the mother leading to a quarrel that later ended in her death.
He said the son was caught red handed while eating sugarcane inside his mother’s house before the dispute erupted leading to the tragedy.
“My wife found our son eating the sugarcane inside our house after he broke in. The sugarcane belonged to my wife. After my spouse questioned him that is when he jumped out with a panga he was using to cut sugarcane and chopped off her head before taking off in a bid to escape. Unfortunately an irate mob caught up with him and killed him in cold blood,” said Mboya.
Assistant County Commissioner Elijah Mulama said according to preliminary reports, the deceased committed the heinous act after a short confrontation with the mother.
He said the security agencies have already launched investigations over the incidence noting the crime scene has also been processed.
Villagers who responded to the distress calls at the homestead said they found the deceased Agnes Gacheri lifeless body lying on the ground bleeding profusely.
“We heard some screams from her husband and on arriving at the homestead we found that Murithi had already chopped off her mother’s head and thrown it in their pit latrine,” said collin Kimathi a neighbour.
The villagers said they got angered and launched a manhunt for the suspect who was later killed by the mob before the police arrived at the scene.
“The villagers became very angry and they pursued him as he was trying to take off. They attacked him using crude weapons where they killed him on the spot ,” said a eye witness.
The two bodies were later removed to Meru Referral and Teaching hospital mortuary.
