Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia yesterday officially flagged off the county delegation set to compete in the 2025 Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games in Siaya County.
The governor urged the team to uphold dignity and carry the pride of Meru as they take part in the national competition scheduled for November 23rd to 29th 2025.
Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony held at Kinoru Stadium, the governor congratulated the selected participants as he expressed confidence in their ability.
He noted that the delegation represents Meru’s top talent and work ethic, chosen after a rigorous selection process.
“Today I stand before you with immense joy and pride as I officially flag you off to the 2025 KICOSCA games. I congratulate you and each one of you for earning your place in this delegation,” said Mutuma.
Mutuma noted that the team earned their positions through discipline, consistency and dedication, both in their places of work and throughout their training and preparations.

He said their success reflects the spirit of Meru, which he described as hardworking, resilient and determined to excel.
“Your selection reflects your discipline, consistency, talent, dedication and the hardwork you have demonstrated both in your work places and during training. Your efforts embodies the true spirit of Meru which is resilient, focused, determined and always ready to excel,” said Mutuma.
The governor emphasized that the delegation serves as a source of inspiration and unity within the county workforce.
He noted that the strength of Meru does not lie in infrastructure alone but in the people who commit themselves daily to serving residents and improving the community.
“The strength of any institution is not in its buildings but rather in the people who wake up everyday to move it forward; that strength is you,” he said.
He encouraged the team to compete with honor, urging them to embrace sportsmanship and represent Meru with integrity throughout the competitions.
Mutuma told the delegation that residents are fully behind them and believe in their ability to shine among other county teams from across Kenya.

In addition, Mutuma directed a message to participants who narrowly missed selection, asking them not to be discouraged but to continue training and striving for future opportunities.
He said persistence remains the key to progress.
Nonetheless, the governor addressed long-standing grievances among county staff regarding limited career growth.
He acknowledged that many employees have served for years without meaningful career advancement as he assured them that his administration is already rolling out structured schemes of service to correct the anomaly.
He said professional development is essential to improving service delivery and restoring motivation among the workforce.
Mutuma noted that leadership should be driven by the desire to uplift people and give them hope, insisting that even if he achieves nothing else in his term, empowering and inspiring county workers would be a legacy he will be proud of.
“Even if there’s nothing else that Mutuma will do in this county, leaving people with hope is enough satisfaction for me,” said Mutuma.
