Meru County is truly a gem, renowned for its fertile agricultural lands and vibrant farming culture.
Positioned centrally, it is not only easy to access but also holds the distinguished title of being a leader in horticultural production.
Additionally, Meru boasts breathtaking natural beauty, including stunning national parks and conservancies.
Meru National Park is home to unique wildlife, such as the Grevy zebras, Somali ostriches, reticulated giraffes, and the majestic oryx.
Moreover, the captivating Lewa Conservancy and the picturesque trails leading to Mount Kenya attract visitors from all over.
Agriculture is the heartbeat of Meru’s economy.
The county is gifted with rich volcanic soils, especially in the high-altitude regions, making it an ideal spot for cultivating coffee, tea, and French beans, as well as producing dairy products.
Meru shines as the leading producer of Miraa (Khat), contributing significantly to both local and national economies.
Senator Kathuri Murungi stands out as a passionate champion for improving our food systems in Kenya.
His unwavering commitment has led to significant reforms in the tea sector and actively advocated for coffee reforms, resulting in increased earnings for coffee farmers following a successful conference in Meru.
Moreover, he is in the process of drafting a bill in the Senate to support Miraa farmers, showcasing his dedication to uplifting agriculture in our region.
With his extensive political experience, Kathuri is an exceptional candidate for the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary role.
He has served two terms as a member of parliament and is now a respected senator representing Meru county.
Kathuri played a crucial role in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaign in Meru, helping to secure over 400,000 votes for President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Government.
Meru County emerged as a significant voting block, ranking fourth in the country.
It is only just that President Ruto recognizes his tireless efforts by appointing him to the Agriculture Ministry—after all, hard work deserves acknowledgement.
Politics is fundamentally about representation, and Meru’s history clearly illustrates the benefits that both the Nyambene and Imenti regions have experienced from having two ministers.
Appointing Kathuri as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary would not only maintain this balance but also ensure fair representation for all.
With Mithika Linturi and Peter Munya in opposition, Meru County needs a strong leader like Kathuri to effectively address the political challenges that lie ahead.
His ability to unite the Meru people and his constant support for the government position him as the ideal candidate to bridge the divides.
With Kathuri in this role, the Kenya Kwanza Government has the opportunity to rebuild trust in Meru County, paving the way for success in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Finally, it is imperative for the government to fulfil its promises to the people of Meru by reviving stalled projects and creating more job opportunities.
If the government delivers on these commitments, President Ruto can anticipate a significant triumph in Meru County, establishing a lasting legacy for the entire nation.
