Students graduating from TVET institutions have been advised to join registered groups in order to benefit from financial sponsorship.
They were also urged to form groups and register them so that they can get assistance from the government and the private sector.
Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) Director for Infrastructure Development, Technology and Innovation Engineer Edward Karani said the government and the private sector can only financially assist registered groups and not individuals.
Speaking at Madaraka primary school in Buuri constituency during the graduation ceremony of 750 graduands of Ujuzi Mashinani, Karani said they have so far financially supported several registered groups in the area to start income generating projects.
“Graduands should join registered groups if they want to benefit financially. The government and the private sector can only assist registered groups to start income generating projects. Before assisting you we must know where you come from, what you are capable of doing and your needs. We have assisted many registered groups in the constituency so far,” said Engineer Karani.
He called on graduands to be genuine, reliable and trustworthy while performing their duties because many skilled labour workers are regarded as untruthful.
He regretted that many are involved in drug and alcohol abuse while others steal machines and equipment from their clients and work stations.
He assured the graduands that many job opportunities are available as long as they remain honest and trustworthy while performing their duties.
Karani said before getting employment one must be referred by somebody else who knows their character well.
He advised graduands to join business community or get employment in Kenya or in the diaspora after graduation.
“We create conducive and enabling working environment for the skilled labourers. I laud the area MP Mugambi Rindikiri for coming up with such a noble idea which will inevitably change the society positively. Everything starts as an idea before it is implemented,” said Karani.
He however regretted that they were encountering a lot of challenges in getting employees in affordable housing scheme because many skilled labourers are not honest, reliable and trustworthy.
