Former Kenya Red Cross regional  coordinator Gitonga Mugambi is dead.

His demise was announced by close friends and family members.

Gitonga was involved in a grisly accident along the Meru-Maua road and was admitted in ICU for advanced care.

Many termed Gitonga as an effective and efficient crisis manager, a problem solver, philanthropic, resourceful, loving, Jovial and dedicated to saving human lives.

Mugure Rungu, a Muuga FM reporter said that she was heartbroken by the news of Mugambi’s death.

“He had an accident last week. Since then he has been receiving treatment at Chogoria mission hospital in ICU. He was so resourceful while at Redcross. I have personally lost a friend,” Mugure said.

Markdavis Munene, an official with Red Cross in Meru said Gitonga succumbed on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment.

“We have been following up on Tosh  since 4.31 am. This morning via a conference call the doctor eloquently ran us through their struggles to assist Gitonga navigate around the breathing challenges that he developed. After a long tedious struggle, the doctor  told us Tosh left us…” Munene said.

Meru Press Club (MPC) chairperson David Muchui said Gitonga’s zeal in rescuing those in distress while he served in the Red Cross remains undeniable.

Phoebe Okal, a journalist who works at the office of the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said Mugambi dedicated his life to save other people’s lives.

“You were a selfless leader who adored humanity,” she said.

KTN camera person Edwin Gitonga expressed shock over the demise of Tosh.

“You were a good man who helped many whenever they needed your help. It will take time for me to digest this but the will of God prevails,” Gitonga said.

Journalist Koome Kimechu said he was perturbed by Mugambi’s death. 

“You were a real philanthropist, opinion shaper, a news maker & a true defender of human rights. I loved your vibe and you truly lived your life. We shall forever miss you buddy,” Kimechu said.

MCA Gacheri Muthuri said one thing for sure is that death will one day be judged and condemned.

“When I saw you in the ICU bed in chogoria, I whispered a prayer that God heals you, I thought my brother you could wake up but God has completely healed you,no more pain on earth.”

“When there was fire in our school formerly Rev Muthuri memorial boarding, you quickly mobilized blankets and mattresses for the children,” Gacheri eulogised.
