The battle for the Mt Kenya region has intensified with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and allies rallying residents to shun the opposition for divisive politics.

Prof Kindiki who led several MPs in an empowerment fundraiser at Kibirichia in Meru County on Saturday accused the former deputy president of propagating tribal politics with a view of alienating the region.

He however vowed to intensify visits to the region so as to pull the rug under the opposition camp.

“After losing the job, he is working hard to incite Mt Kenya residents against other Kenyans yet they live in all parts of Kenya. Wherever I have travelled in this country, I find the Ameru and Kikuyu community. You cannot isolate one section of Kenya,” Prof Kindiki said.

He added, “There’s only one Kenya. The country will develop if all the communities co-exist. It is the agenda we are pursuing relentlessly that is why we will not lend space to those trying to divide and incite Kenyans along tribal lines.”

The deputy president also challenged elected leaders under the Kenya Kwanza alliance to intensify their presence in the grassroots to defend the government.

“The MPs should remain on the ground to enumerate the work being done by the government. No one should lie to you that the people of Meru are not in government,” he said.

He dared the opposition for a fight saying that he was no pushover in a political contest.

“Msione Simba amenyeshewa mkadhani ni paka. Usidharau wembamba wa reli, gari la moshi linapita,” he said.

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa accused the opposition of inciting an intergenerational divisions.

“We will not allow people without vision or agenda to incite an intergenerational divide in our country. After failing in inciting tribalism they are now focusing on the youth. They want to use the youth to cause violence. We will not allow them,” Mr Ichung’wa said.

The DP further defended the empowerment initiatives saying they are meant to complement other far-reaching policies being implemented.

“Empowerment is part of this administrations development agenda to uploft those at rhe bottom of the economic pyramid. We will not be distracted. Anyone opposed to it doesn’t know how Sh10,000, Sh20,000, Sh50,000 is crucial to uplifting someone’s hustle,” he said.

DP Kindiki Promise Completion of All Stalled Promised Projects
The DP and Majority leader have been in the Mt Kenya region more than 10 times to fundrase for traders, boda boda riders among others.

“We are not stopping at empowerment. It’s a complementary gesture on top of rolling out policies that have stabilized the economy and led to better earnings in the coffee, tea, dairy, miraa sub-sectors and others,” he noted.

The Deputy President also enumerated key projects funded by the government in Meru County including the construction of a Sh800 million market in Meru town.
