Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned politicians against inciting and fueling division in the country claiming the government will not tolerate any election-related violence.
Speaking in South Mugirango in Kisii on Thursday the DP affirming that peace, unity, and national stability are non-negotiable as we gear towards the next general election.
Kindiki who told off his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, declared that the government will continue to defend the country’s unity at all costs, emphasizing that no Kenyan should be targeted or harmed over political differences.
- “We will not allow any politician to incite or divide Kenyans on tribal line over his own personal interest. No Kenyan should fall into their trap and turn on another because of political choices.
It will never happen again yes we respect the Constitution which guarantees freedom of opinion and political belief but not misleading innocent Kenyans,” said Kindiki.
Prof Kindiki called for an end to premature politicking, urging leaders to focus on development rather than empty divisive rhetoric.
“It is time to serve the people of Kenya and solve their social – economic challenges, and coexist in peace,” he added.
Rejecting populist election-season freebies, Kindiki affirmed that the administration is empowering entrepreneurs to drive economic growth.
He further noted the unity of the country is the first and most important duty reiterating that the government’s is commitment to inclusive development and long-term peace.
In a powerful and passionate speech that echoed across the country, DP noted he era of post-election violence and political divisiveness must come to an end noting the country will never again witnesses a similar 2007 violence.
He added that the government will take lawful measures on any politicians stoking tensions to innocent Kenyans
“We are one country, one people, and Kenya is our home It is unacceptable to engage in premature politics in the name of criticizing the government,” said Kindiki.
Drawing from the nation’s 2007-2008 painful history, Kindiki urged Kenyans to elect leaders owing to their development track records and not on empty noise which are not useful to the countries development agenda.
Addressing residents sueing small scale empowerment programs spearheaded by the Deputy President said the initiative is aimed at boosting small and medium enterprises in a bid to guarantee expansion and growth.
“We are engaging the small-scale traders right now in order to boost their businesses as opposed to waiting for the electioneering period to offer them freebies in exchange for their support. As a government, we are not going to be party to such trickery. We are walking with them, supporting them now because the growth of their businesses contributes to the nation’s economic expansion,” noted Kindiki.
The DP also told the residents that President William Ruto’s administration has stabilized the economy and it has begun to bear fruits including an increase in prices for commodities within the agricultural value chains.
