Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi wants thorough investigations into the murder of two men at Kiruyu area of Athiru Rujiine in Igembe Central constituency.

Kathuri said there has been escalating tension and violence attributed to land ownership dispute in the aforementioned area after the brutal murder of Morris Kimathi alias Kimathi Mwonyo and Robert Mutuma.

“Residents want a status update on investigations into the murder of Mr Kimathi Mwonyo and Mr Mutuma, stating whether any person has been apprehended, charged and prosecuted; and explain actions taken by the Government to quell tension between the disputing parties and to permanently resolve the land ownership dispute,” Kathuri stated.

Kathuri lamented that there have been reported cases in Antubetwe E Kiongo Ward within Igembe East Ward in Igembe Central Constituency, Meru County that have caused one death, several injuries, damage to crops and destruction of property.

Kathuri also appealed to the National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations ministry over escalating incidences of banditry and cattle rustling that have led to loss of lives and livestock theft in Igembe North, Igembe Central, Tigania East, Tigania West and Buuri Constituencies in Meru County.

“What is the Ministry’s plan to recover the thousands of both cattle and goats that have been stolen through a thorough operation conducted by the Ministry of Defence and all other security forces?” he posed.

He wants to establish whether the Ministry is intending to have a permanent presence of military officers as it happened in North Rift.

“Will the Government provide compensation to families affected by loss of lives and stolen Livestock,” Kathuri inquired.
