A Persons living with disability lobby has warned that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political activities are likely to sabotage development programmes in the region.
Led by the region PWD Patron Mike Makarina, the team called on Gachagua to respect president William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki as they focus on fast tracking development in the new year.
Speaking in Meru town, Makarina claimed that ex – DP is busy disrupting president Ruto’s government for his own political interest which he said are not beneficial to Kenyans.
He further asked him to desist from subtle unfounded and malicious attacks and instead support the government development agenda to help the country address the challenging economic and social crisis.
“Kenya is facing a myriad of challenges including high cost of living hence the president should be given time and support from all quarters to be able to find solutions and bring changes in the country,” said Makarina.
The group at the same time advised Gachagua to accept reality and shun from divisive politics adding Mt Kenya region is solidly behind the government.
“There is no need to be selfish because we all belong to one country. It is the high time that leaders stopped being greedy because when they fail to succeed, they want to criticize everything and intimidate the government even by using violence this is unwarranted and unlawful,” he said
The Meru County PWD committee said Gachagua had failed in his mandate leading to his removal from office by impeachment.
“We have a lot of hope in Kindiki and it’s just a matter of time before this country undergoes economic transformation. We are sure that he is the game changer and he will support the president to achieve the development agenda,” he added.
He accused Gachagua of dividing the country through public sympathy seeking stunts, claiming that the recent tear gas attack at a prayer meeting in Nyandarua was stage-managed.
“Let us all participate in national building. There is no need to use violence to bring ethnic sympathy and division. We need unity in this new year,” Makarina noted.
The PWD leaders also lauded president Ruto for bringing in an inclusive government for not only bringing solidarity but also promoting national unity.
They added the latest changes to pick cabinet members allied to former president Uhuru Kenyatta is a true demonstration of a broad-based approach in tackling challenges Kenyans are facing.
Following the meeting, some pundits argued that the Ruto-Uhuru reunion would complicate political calculations for Gachagua.
However, the former DP has been moving to consolidate his Mt Kenya support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
