President Ruto sacks PS Public Health, KEMSA board, CEO over corruption allegations

President William Ruto has sacked the entire Kenya Medical Supplies Authority board following accusations of corruption at the agency.Also sent packing was Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health Dr Josephine Mburu while Ms Terry Ramadhani, the chief executive officer was suspended.Mr Irungu Nyakera was appointed to head the board while Dr Andrew Mutava Mulwa takes over as acting chief executive officer. The board was also reconstituted with new members including Mr Hezron Omollo, Mr Bernard Kipkurui, Dr Jane Masiga and Ms Jane Nyagaturi.KEMSA has been rocked by corruption scandals with the latest being alleged misappropriation of over Sh4 billion, allegations that were denied by senior officials at the agency.Through Head of public Service Felix Koskei, the President said his administration was concerned about reports of “impropriety” over handling of funds in the National Malaria Programme.“The alleged maladministration on the part of KEMSA is with regard to the procurement of treated mosquito nets for those vulnerable households which could have led to significant exposure to the disease and increase in its severity in the endemic regions,” Mr Koskei said in a statement released Monday.“The Head of State is committed to heralding a new era in the management of our nation’s healthcare by ensuring that no Kenyan will be denied the dignity of affordable medical care due to corruption,” he added.
