President William Ruto has pledged that his administration will issue 80,000 title deeds to Meru land owners by the end of this year.
Speaking at Tutua in Buuri constituency during the issuance of 5,000 title deeds, president Ruto said land ownership was on top of the government’s agenda.
He said the government would also prioritise issuance of title deeds to public institutions such as schools following reports of land grabbing.
“I have instructed the minister for lands to ensure schools get title deeds as a first priority. If there are land grabbers targeting pubic land, there are sufficient law enforcers to arrest them,” the president said.
Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri raised concern over rising cases of school land grabbing in the constituency.
The president added that his administration would hire 100 land officers to ensure titling is done without problems
“We will be coming here until we resolve the title deed issue in Meru. This is one of the challenges I intend to address in my term,” he said.
The president who also launched the re-carpeted Ruiri-Isiolo road, pledged that the government will allocate more funds to repair the Ruiri-Meru road.
“I have instructed CS Kipchumba Murkomen to ensure there is money for the Meru-Ruiri road,” Ruto said.
