More than 2500 national identification cards,1300 driving licenses and 800 birth certificates  are lying at Meru Huduma Center uncollected.

Speaking to the Voice Daily during an interview, the Center manager Peter Mutiso asked those who applied and are yet to pick their documents to do so to reduce the backlog and avoid cases where the documents get misplaced.

“We urge the applicants to collect them because we don’t want to have cases where these documents are misplaced when the owners come to seek them.” Mutiso said.

“But we are working with the area chiefs and nyumba kumi officers to sensitize people at grass root level to pick their documents,” Mutiso added.

The Huduma Center boss urged residents to only seek service at the Center or government offices to avoid conmen masquerading as workers at the organization.

Alternatively, Mutiso asked customers to seek information or assistance in their social media platforms or customer care number.

At the same time, Mutiso notified residents about the introduction of a new service that will allow students to register for the KASNEB (Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board) exams.

The body is responsible for preparing and administering exams for diploma and professional certificate courses.

This programme allows for registration, booking and deferral of exams as well as renewal of one’s membership.

“Booking is now also available and if you have registered for exams and for one reason or another you want to defer, you can visit us.”Mutiso said.

He also urged Meru residents to register with National Construction Authority, an initiative of the govt focused on people with skills yet did not get a chance to learn. All casual labourers including masons, carpenters, plumbers and metal workers are called upon to register and be certified at the centre.

“Casual labourers should not feel neglected as the government is now  concerned about their well being. NCA will help them apply for jobs and the service is free,” he said
