A section of the Njuri Ncheke Meru council of elders has criticized a late night meeting allegedly held by some Meru County politicians shortly after a Meru county development forum hosted by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at his Karen residence.

Speaking at the Njuri Ncheke shrine in Nchiru, Tigania West, Meru County, Chairman Adriano Aruyaru, alongside other elders, expressed concern over the intentions behind the night meeting.

The elders claimed that the gathering, attended by various elected leaders, was aimed at undermining the discussions and resolutions made during the Deputy President’s development meeting earlier in the day.

The elders accused former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, former Governor Peter Munya, former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, as well as several Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly from Meru of convening the night meeting to counteract the progress made at the Deputy President’s forum.

They described the meeting as an attempt to derail national government-led development initiatives intended to benefit the people of Meru.

The Njuri Ncheke elders called on the former governor and other political figures involved in the alleged meeting to refrain from actions that could hinder development in the region.

They further urged President William Ruto and his deputy to visit Meru County, emphasizing that the local population supports the administration and is eager for the implementation of national government projects.

During the Karen meeting, Deputy President Kindiki hosted over 3,000 attendees including Meru’s political leadership, opinion leaders, and religious representatives.

The discussions centered on key development projects for the county.

The forum was part of a series of engagements led by the Deputy President, with the Meru meeting marking the eighth such forum.

Kindiki is expected to continue holding similar discussions with leaders from the remaining counties in the near future.

The elders reiterated their commitment to development and urged all leaders to work together in ensuring the successful implementation of national government projects in Meru County.
