North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has called for the establishment of Gender Based Violence report desks in the health facilities.

Rahim who spoke at the Jukwaa la Usalama exercise at Kinoru stadium said that the move would ease the reporting of incidences.

“During the vetting exercise of gender CS Hannah Cheptumo at the National Assembly, she said that the gender desks at the police stations are not working. It is my appeal that the GBV desks be established in hospitals so as to help locals to easily report incidences of rape and other related issues” said the North Imenti legislator.

Expressing similar sentiments, Kiirua Naari MCA Jennifer Murogocho alleged that despite the GBV desks being set up at the police stations, most of the staff are not trained on how to handle the claims.

“It is good that the government established those desks in the police stations for the victims to report on GBV matters. But many people tend to shy off and do not to go to report. My request is that the staff there be trained on how to engage the public so that they come out freely to say the abuses they have undergone” said Murogocho.

She added, “Without such training, people will not be able to open up and the threat will be tagged along with us. This leaves more women in danger than men”.
