Meru county Jubilee Chairman David Karithi has welcomed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi bid to contest for the presidency in 2027 general election.

Karithi said he is very happy with the former interior CS reception in Kisii.

He said although Kisii is Matiangi’s political backyard a lot of people turned up to receive him.

“He had a mammoth crowd than expected. He has been out of government and the people really turned up. It shows people are tired of President Ruto’s government,” Karithi said.

The former Tigania West MP said they are ready to welcome the former Cabinet Secretary in Meru.

He urged Matiangi to go round the country campaigning to oust President Ruto because Kenyans have already shown signs of being tired of his regime.

On President Ruto’s last month visit to Meru county, the former legislator said they have not seen any tangible development project in Meru.

“The president went round opening projects that had already been done by his predecessors and even some by county government. The only project we can say he has is building a hotel in Meru, ”Karithi said.

He said in Tigania West constituency, the Kianjai-Miathene road that was under construction the contractor hasn’t even shown up on sight for almost a year after it was commissioned by President Ruto.

Karithi urged President Ruto to stop building markets as they are a devolved function and are supposed to be built by counties.

“We have Kianjai market that was constructed by former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi. It had everything including a roof and Cabral’s. The vendors were moved out yet nothing is going on to upgrade the market. The vendors are selling their produce on the mad,” he said.

He said in two weeks’ time, the traders have planned to stage a demonstration in Kianjai to return to their market if no construction is going on.

On opposition leaders teaming up, he said Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiangi ,Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka will produce one flag bearer to send President Ruto packing.
