Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday conducted an extensive development tour of Meru County, inspecting key government projects in housing, electrification, healthcare, and infrastructure.
In Mwendantu, the Deputy President assessed the progress of the Mwendantu Affordable Housing Project, where 230 housing units are under construction under the national Housing Fund.

The project, now 80 percent complete, is expected to expand access to affordable housing while generating employment opportunities for local artisans, engineers, architects, and suppliers of construction materials.
In Kambiti, Professor Kindiki launched the Kambiti Last Mile Electricity Supply project, which will connect 218 households, businesses, and public institutions at a cost of KSh 55 million.
The initiative forms part of a broader electrification programme targeting 26,500 new connections across the county, valued at Sh2.4 billion, as the government pushes toward universal electricity access within three years.

The Deputy President also inspected ongoing upgrades at Meru Level five Hospital, where the national government is investing Sh1 billion to construct modern facilities and install advanced medical equipment.
The upgrades are expected to support treatment of critical illnesses, including cancer, heart, and kidney diseases, and pave the way for the hospital’s elevation to a Level 6 National Teaching and Referral Hospital by next year.
Addressing residents during a public engagement forum in Meru town, Professor Kindiki outlined additional development initiatives underway in the county including the construction of 21 fresh produce markets, among them the planned Gakoromone Modern Market valued at Sh1 billion, as well as extensive road projects.
Rural access roads are currently being upgraded at a cost of Sh39 billion, while the improvement of roads within Meru Town is set to begin soon at an estimated Sh3.7 billion.
The Second in Command was accompanied by Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood, and Kenya’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Halima Mucheke, alongside local leaders and residents.
