Nkabune Technical Training Institute is appealing to form four leavers from needy backgrounds to enrol for technical courses to benefit from the current friendly funding model.
According to Peninah Ngina, the institute’s new principal students from needy families will receive full funding for their courses under Higher Education Financing (HEF). She noted that students who take technical skills have a high chance of securing employment.
Ngina spoke after receiving the first batch of students who will benefit from the new funding model where they will benefit from government bursaries and loans.
“As an institution, we are ready to help the students in the higher education financing application process. They only need to have a result slip and IDs for both parents,” Ngina said.
The principal said the institution has so far admitted more than 600 students from needy backgrounds. Besides tuition money, Ngina said the students will also receive money for their living expenses in college.
The principal added, “The students will be placed in terms of income bands with those with little income at band one. We have five bands where band five includes those with high income.” Students in band one are expected to receive a loan and bursary as well as pocket money. Students with single parents are considered at band one.
One of the students who spoke to The Voice Daily said that the funding model has enabled him to pursue the course of his dream.
“I have always wanted to be an electrician but due to my poor background, I could not enrol on any college. This funding model has made my dreams a reality,” Said Erick Kimathi.
Mercy Kanini hospitality student who is pursuing a hospitality course lauded Nkabune Institute for reaching out to them.
The principal further said that the institution has received 100 computers under the Jitume programme.
