Theatre lovers are set to witness the birth of the film industry in Meru with the screening of the region’s first feature film on Friday December 20, 2024.

The first episode of the comedy feature film dubbed ‘nDivas of Mutindwa’ which is produced by Sagewicky and Lions Productions, will premiere at Elsa Hotel in Meru at 8pm.

The word Diva has been added an ‘n’ to depict the heavy accent of Meru English speakers, where the film is set and produced.

nDivas of Mutindwa, is set in the vibrant Meru town featuring four local celebrities, Nyashma, Nadia, Marjorie, and Nkirote.

Wycliffe Muthomi, the script writer, said it was inspired by the desire to grow local talent and showcase the Meru culture and art.

“The four ladies who are the main cast have made a mark in various creative industries from acting, blogging, music and modelling. We follow them as they form a close-knit circle to pursue their dream of fame and success.

“It is a thrilling story of the ups and downs of their budding careers where some have disastrous ends and hilarious situations,” Muthomi says.

The film also features local household comedians like Msaxi and Kiambambe and other upcoming creatives in Meru town.

“Our intention is to showcase our culture and lifestyles through film. There are numerous opportunities for the youth if we develop our creative economy,” he said.
