The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse has held its second national substance use prevention week summit at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

This year’s theme was “My community, My prevention pillar”.

This year’s theme was in appreciation of the people who do not abuse any substance and those that are on their road to recovery.

NACADA CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa addressing the delegates at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

Apart from celebrating prevention of substance abuse, the prevention week also celebrate those who provide care and those that are punched in the walls by these substances.

“This is just not an idea but a movement. We seek to prevent our people from sinking into drugs since prevention is not only better than cure but also cheap,” said Dr Anthony Omerikwa, the NACADA CEO.

The NACADA Board chair Rev Dr. Stephen Mairori said they were ready to work with the 47 counties countrywide noting they would visit them by the end of 2025 in a bid to ensure that the prevention gospel is well spread.

In the 2022 survey,it was established that alcohol continues to be the most widely abused substance in Kenya with an increasing demand for cheaper and readily available alcoholic products especially chang’aa, traditional brews, and potable spirits.

The survey also pointed out that 2.6 million people world-wide die due to alcohol.

The two day summit focused on capturing different prevention experiences from work, school and community.
