Mulathankari Girls High School beat top schools in Imenti North sub county to emerge third in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
While one candidate obtained a grade of A (minus), 45 candidates out of 88 qualified to join universities, a transition of over 50 per cent.
The new principal Ms Virginia Kagendo said the school had improved the mean grade from 3.7 in 2016 to 6.7 in 2023 and attributed the good performance to discipline and hard work.
“Our students, teachers, board of management and support staff have done us proud. It was due to their dedication that we were able to emerge third in the county. I also commend the previous management and we promise to take this school to higher levels of performance,” Ms Kagendo said when the school held a thanksgiving prayer service.
“The class of 2023 exceeded expectations and we have confidence in our girls that this year we will do better. We have set a target of 7.5 mean grade and I am sure we will achieve it,” she said, and asked students to be focused in their studies and perform well despite the facilities in schools they were learning.
Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood who attended the prayers pledged to support the school and ensure the students realize their dreams. He urged those who have not applied for bursaries to do so.
“The bursary money is from the taxes we pay and you should all benefit. We should not have children being sent home due to lack of fees yet the money is there,” Mr Dawood said.
“Money will also be allocated from the NG-CDF (National Government Constituencies Development Fund) to build toilets and dormitories. We will also send our proposal to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu ans ask the ministry to upgrade the school from county to extra-county and further elevate its status,” the MP said.
Ms Kagendo thanked the MP for supporting the institution and promised that they will work hard to attain the target of 7.5 mean grade this year.
The board chair Ms Carol Mutiga promised that the board will support teachers, the Principal and students so that they attain better results.
“Everyone has played their role very well and we commend them. This achievement means that each and everyone involved has played their role to the best of their ability,” she said.
