North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has urged Meru Teachers college to remove the asbestos roofs to fully comply with the ministry of environment guidelines.

“All government institutions were given up to the end of last year to remove all asbestos roofs. I would ask the principal to write a letter to the ministry of environment and bring it to my office so that we can help,” he said.

The legislator promised to approach Environment Climate Change and Forestry cabinet secretary to support the costly process.

“I will also set aside funds to purchase iron sheets in order to make students comfortable enough,” said Rahim.

He lauded President William Ruto for employing many teachers during his little time as head of state.

“Even if people are calling President Ruto all kinds of names, they should give credit where it is due. It is during his tenure that 85,000 teachers have been employed in one year. This is the highest number of tutors to be employed at once,” Rahim said.

The MP said that he will follow up when parliament resumes to ensure teachers training colleges get recognised by Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) so that students get loans.

“It is not fair for TVET institutions to get loans while teachers training colleges do not get loans yet they are all doing Diplomas,” Rahim said.

On recent abductions the legislator said he does not support abduction but also the youths should know there are limits to freedom of speech.

“People should respect President William Ruto because he is our head of state until 2027,” said the MP.

On his projects of giving artificial limbs to disabled people he said 500 has so far benefitted from the project and more will benefit this year.
