North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has said parliament is keen on safeguarding the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) even after it was declared unconstitutional.

Speaking at Gitoro primary school while accompanied by Chief Executive officer (NG-CDF) Yusuf Mbuno, Rahim said the law makers will fight to ensure the fund is not scrapped.

“We will ensure the constitution is amended to include CDF because it has alot of benefit to Kenyans,”said Dawood.

High Court judges Kanyi Kimondo and Roselyn Aburili in November declared the 20-year-old kitty unconstitutional.

They directed that NG-CDF and all its projects, programs and its activities shall cease to operate at midnight on June 30, 2026.

The fund was introduced 20 years ago and in 2020, a three-judge bench invalidated the CDF Act but gave lawmakers 12 months to make the necessary amendments to align it with the 2010 constitution.

The MPs appealed but also came up with the National Government Constituency Development Fund Act to ensure that they still had a hand in the allocation from the treasury.

Dawood spoke while launching the construction of Sh4.2 million dinning hall funded by NGCDF board.

He said his constituency had received more than Sh1.5 billion from NGCDF since 2013.

Mr Mbuno called on fund managers to ensure prudent use of NGC-DF funds.
