The ministry of Information Communication and Technology has launched the digital economy enablement programme, an initiave aimed at providing youths with access to digital skills and opportunities.
More than 100 students from Nkabune Technical Training Institute who are pioneers of the programme in the instution have been enrolled in the training, according to the principal Ms Eunice Njenga.
Ms Njenga said the program will enable students acquire basic digital skills that will increase their productivity and ensure that students earn while they are studying.
“When students are through with the program they will have a chance to work online and have an income. They will thus unburden their parents since they can chip in and pay part of their fees and upkeep,” Ms Njenga said.
She also called on form four leavers to join the instution in order to benefit from the program before they decide the courses they would prefer to pursue.
“We have a career office in the instution and welcome the form four leavers for guidance in different courses that are marketable in today’s job market,” Ms Njenga added.
She also noted that after training, those who graduate will open up the space in the surrounding community. The principal urged the youth to take advantage of the facility and change their mind set where most bank hopes on securing scarce white collar jobs.
