Residents of Industrial area in Meru town have decried high levels of insecurity in the evening.
Speaking to The Voice Daily, residents said it was risky using the Greenwood mall-Meru Central Dairy road after 6pm due to muggers.
John Mwiti, a resident says that the muggers are targeting mobile phones and bags containing valuables.
’’It has become very risky to join the church morning devotion at dawn or even go for fellowship in the evening due to fear of thugs operating near the GGV church,’’ a worshipper at the GGV church said.
The locals are now calling on the police to beef up patrols to ensure the is guaranteed security to the residents.
Joseph Kimathi, a resident, also called on the county government to clear bushes along Kanyuru streams where he claims the thugs disappear to after stealing from passersby.
‘’There is a thick bush along the Kanyuru stream which is used as a hideout by criminals. The county government should play it’s role of clearing the bushes and lighting the area,’’ said Kimathi.
On Wednesday, mechanics working at Kanyuru area held demonstrations at the Meru police station decrying rise in theft of car parts.
