Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri has blamed male parents for the poor academic performance of their children and challenged them to take responsibility.
He said fathers are to blame for the current plight facing the boy child because majority of them abdicated their duties and left the responsibility to mothers.
Speaking at Kirua market during a meeting with all the school principals in the constituency, the MP regretted that majority of men do not attend school parents’ meetings or even monitor what their children are doing in schools.
“It’s unfortunate that men have abdicated their responsibility and left the duty of nurturing the children to their mothers. Majority of male parents don’t attend parents’ meetings or even monitor what their children are doing in school,” he said.
“This has led to the plight boys are facing because they lack a good role model leading to poor academic performance. To change their fortune, men should take full responsibility,” said the MP.
He said the only solution is for the men to attend parents’ meetings and monitoring what their children are doing both at home, school and social life failure to which the situation will worsen.
Rindikiri called on school principals to help in improving the academic performance of their schools by working hard to post better results especially in the national examinations.
“I promised to support and reward the schools that will post good results. We shall also build administration blocks, construct washrooms, buy school bus and sink boreholes for schools that don’t have such facilities,” said Rindikiri.
The principals promised to pull up their socks and ensure that they post better results in this year’s national examination and nurture talents in the Competence Based Curriculum.
