Meru leaders have been urged to tone down on politics and to instead concentrate on development issues in a bid to uplift the living standards of the residents.

Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood said if leaders continue to concentrate on politics no development will be realised.

He regretted the emerging trend of politicking on a daily basis in Meru county noting it does not urger well with the welfare of the people.

“Am appealing to Meru leaders to tone down on politics and to instead embrace development. There is too much politicking in Meru at the expense of development. Let shun unnecessary politicking otherwise we will be the laughing stock of other counties,” said Dawood.

Speaking during the eye and diabetic screening camp at Meru primary school in Meru town, Dawood called on unity and teamwork in order to attain set goals.

The lawmaker cautioned leaders against blackmailing each other and called for respect instead.

He said it is unfortunate that some leaders are dividing the county along tribal boundaries of Imenti, Tigania and Igembe regions noting the move could fuel unnecessary animosity amongst residents who have coexisted peacefully from time immemorial.

Dawood said he is not opposed to oversight of either county or constituency funds but insisted that those carrying the exercise should follow the law to the letter.
