Radio Journalists have been urged to continue educating their listeners on climate change for resilient communities.

Journalists in Meru commemorated this year’s world radio day during a breakfast meeting hosted by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

This year’s theme is ‘Radio and  climate change’.

MCK Central and Upper Eastern regional coordinator Jackson Karanja encouraged journalists to continue creating more content that seeks to address climate change.

“We have engaged several stakeholders among them environmentalists calling out on them to use media in reaching out to the community on environment management issues” said Karanja.

‘Radio is a powerful tool and the media should use it to educate the public on the threats that climate change poses on them and the need to conserve environment’
Karanja added

Moses Mung’atia, a Meru based journalist also urged colleagues to not only address climate change issues but also offer solutions  to climate related issues.

“To my colleagues, even as we engage our listeners through our programmes, let’s not only focus on the problems causing the effect. We need to go further and talk on possible solutions of climate change” advised Mung’atia

He challenged his colleagues to be the agents of change in their day to day reporting owing to their considerable influence in the society.

The journalists also planted trees at Meru National Polytechnic to celebrate the day as they emphasized the need to conserve the environment as a way of combating climate change.
