Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has held a high-level security meeting with the County Security Committee to address the escalating cases of cattle raids and violence in the region.

The meeting, chaired by County Commissioner Jacob Ouma, sought to tighten security measures and restore peace, especially in the most affected areas in Tigania and Igembe.

Governor Mutuma condemned the recent surge in cattle raids, which have not only led to the loss of livestock but also resulted in the deaths of innocent people.

He urged security officers to intensify their efforts in dealing with the criminal activities that have threatened the safety and livelihoods of residents.

“This county cannot continue to be a battlefield for criminals who think they can raid homes, steal livestock, and kill people without facing consequences. The security team and my office are committed to take any decisive action to protect the people of Meru,” the Governor asserted.

As part of the measures to strengthen security, Governor Mutuma ordered the immediate return of 27 trained security officers who had been withdrawn from the areas they were previously manning.

He emphasized that their redeployment was necessary to enhance patrols and response efforts in high-risk zones.

Additionally, the County commissioner announced that those security officers would undergo a vetting process before being armed to ensure that only competent and trustworthy personnel are entrusted with firearms.

County Commissioner Jacob Ouma, who led the security committee, assured the Governor and the residents of Meru that his team was committed to working closely with the county government to restore peace.

“We will not allow criminals to terrorize our people. My office, together with the Governor’s leadership, will ensure that security is reinforced, and the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to justice,” Ouma stated.

The meeting concluded with a firm resolution to increase intelligence gathering, enhance collaboration between security agencies, and engage local communities in reporting suspicious activities.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security officers to ensure the safety of the county.

With these renewed efforts, Meru County now looks forward to a more secure environment where businesses can thrive and residents can go about their daily activities without fear.
