Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has extended an olive branch to her deputy Mutuma M’Enthingia, Meru County Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi and 48 MCA’s who have been at logger ends with her for the last two years.

The governor said she is ready to work with the leaders for the sake of development, peace and unity of the county.

The reconciliation efforts comes after M’Ethingia, Bundi and the 48 MCA’s failed to turn up for a development meeting the governor had convened at her official residence in Meru town.

Mwangaza said she had invited all the 69 MCA’s, speaker Ayub Bundi together with his county executive committees, County Secretary Kiambi Atheru and the deputy governor in a meeting on Thursday morning.

The governor said she was ready to bury the hatchet and work with the MCA’s in the new year.

“So this year am willing and ready to bring peace in Meru County. We are not ready for unnecessary wars,” Mwangaza said.

She said for Meru to get development all leaders must work together irrespective of their political differences.

She said it was unfortunate the deputy governor failed to attend the meeting despite being invited officially.

“He has failed to attend and it is not the first time. He has missed 14 cabinet meetings including today. It is very unfortunate and his excuse is that he is not invited to the meeting. Today we called him but he did not answer and I sent a message and he did not respond,” Mwangaza said.

She spoke at the governor’s residence in Meru town on Thursday.

The governor who was impeached by the assembly and later the senate last year filed a case in court challenging the decision to oust her as governor.

Governor Kawira Mwangaza addresses the Media at the Governor’s residence on Thursday 9, 2025.

She was given a lifeline after orders blocking the Senate decision to impeach her were extended to until March 2025.

The deputy governor on Wednesday had stated that he will not attend the meeting as he was fearing for his life.

M’Ethingia said his body guard had been withdrawn and his life was in danger as he did not have enough security.

But Mwangaza denied the allegations saying her deputy was insincere about his safety.

“Why does his life become in danger when it comes to attending cabinet meetings or when working for the people of Meru county? We will not accept people who are not working and yet they are being paid,” Mwangaza said.

Mwangaza said she might soon consider withdrawing salary for her deputy as he has been deserting his duties as the deputy.

She said out of the 69 MCAs, 21 turned up while 48 failed to attend the meeting.

She promised to call all leaders who failed to attend next week in bid to reconcile with them.
