The County Assembly of Meru has officially approved Linda Gakii Kiome as the new Deputy Governor following her nomination by Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia.

The approval makes her the first female Deputy Governor in the Meru county’s history.

During a special sitting, MCAs praised her qualifications and vision.

Patrick Mutuma, the Leader of Majority in the Assembly, described her as an intelligent lady and a respected leader in Meru who will work well with the Governor to make Meru great.

“The bus is now full and it is on the highway, steering Meru to the right track,” said Mutuma.

Kiriinya Mwenda also voiced his support, emphasizing that his endorsement was not based solely on gender.

“I supported the report not just because she is a woman, but because she is qualified and capable of delivering for the people of Meru,” he said.

He went on to highlight that leadership should be anchored on merit noting Ms Kiome had demonstrated the competence, vision, and integrity needed to serve at the highest level of county leadership.

Ms Kiome is expected to be officially sworn in on May 27, 2025, in a ceremony anticipated to draw leaders, dignitaries, and residents from across the county.

Her appointment comes at a crucial time for the county, as the administration focuses on improving healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and job opportunities for the youth.
