Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has advised the Meru county government to ensure it works harmoniously with the national government in a bid to accelerate developments in the region.
He called on the county leadership to foster unity and strengthen cooperation with the national government in order to fully benefit from the national cake.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of Linda Kiome as the Deputy Governor of Meru County, Kiraitu urged Governor Mutuma to work closely with President William Ruto’s administration to ensure Meru benefits from national government projects and funding.
“If we want to bring more development to Meru, we must support the national government and engage constructively,” said Kiraitu.
He called on all Meru leaders, both elected and appointed, to put aside rivalry and embrace collaboration.
“This is not a time for division. It’s a time for unity of purpose. When we speak in one voice, we speak louder. Let us lobby together, plan together, and build together,” said Kiraitu.
Kiraitu congratulated Ms Kiome on her appointment, describing it as a milestone for inclusive leadership and a fresh chapter in Meru’s development journey.
But beyond the ceremonial applause, Kiraitu used the occasion to challenge leaders in Meru to rise above political differences and work collectively for the good of the county.
In a firm yet diplomatic tone, Kiraitu also made direct appeal to Governor Mutuma, urging him to foster strong ties with the national government.
“Development follows goodwill. If we want to see more roads, better hospitals, improved schools, and economic growth in Meru, we must work with and not against the national government,” he said.
The former governor emphasized that political alignment and respectful engagement with Nairobi are key to unlocking major projects and financial support for the region.
Linda Kiome, visibly moved by the support, pledged to serve with integrity and to be a bridge between the people and the county leadership.
Governor Mutuma, on his part, acknowledged the call for unity and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
