Political activist Michael Makarina and a section of residents have called out the police and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen over harassment of impeached Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza last Sunday.
Mwangaza, who was attending her Okolea rally in Igoji was blocked by police officers who cited security issues.
Makarina, who is a staunch supporter of Mwangaza pleaded with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to take stern action against any perpetrators who mishandled Mwangaza in Igoji on Sunday.
He urged the Interior Ministry led by CS Kipchumba Murkomen to beef up Mwangaza’s security during her Okolea programs within the county.
“We only recognise Governor Kawira Mwangaza who was overwhelmingly voted by Meru residents and not interim Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia. We will never relent on the fight to reclaim Mwangaza’s 2022 snatched victory by power angry leaders. Why is she being fought for no apparent reason,” Makarina who was accompanied by a countable number of residents said.
He said they are planning to start countywide protests from next Monday to castigate the incompetence of President William Ruto’s led administration.
The activist condemned the beating and alleged subsequent inappropriate touching of Mwangaza’s private parts.
Makarina wondered why other leaders are given paramount security but she is beaten with an aim to get rid of her Okolea program that has saved several vulnerable Meru people.
He said they are aware of the scheme by some leaders who are now orchestrating evil plans to shoot Mwangaza dead.
“They better arrest me. I am ready to face DCI and write a statement. We are aware of thieves who are regrouping and have set their eyes to siphon county funds. We don’t fear them. CS Murkomen should stop disrupting Mwangaza’s meetings. We demand respect for Meru women. Mwangaza is sick and her life is in danger. The Okolea program will still continue on Sunday,” he said.
He also claimed that Governor M’Ethingia has sacked all officers who were employed during Mwangaza’s two years tenure whereas Mwangaza never did so to those who were employed by former governors Peter Munya or Kiraitu Murungi.
Triposa Mukima, a resident from Mwiteria, praised Mwangaza’s Okolea program saying it has transformed lives of the vulnerable in the community.
“Mwangaza is a man in woman’s clothing. We rally behind and support her fully,” she said.
She urged the former governor to quickly launch her intended political party.
In a video clip shared by Mwangaza, a police officer is seen harassing and pushing her not to access a field she had planned to conduct her Okolea program.
