Principals have been urged to introduce the German language in TVET institutions for their trainees to benefit from job opportunities in the diaspora.

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu said there will be a lot of job opportunities in Germany after Kenya signs a bilateral labour agreement with the country.

She spoke at Madaraka primary school in Buuri constituency during the pioneer graduation ceremony of 750 graduands of “Ujuzi Mashinani”.

She said those proficient in the German will be assured of jobs and challenged learners to embrace the course.

“It will be very hard to get employment there if you don’t speak the language. That is why I am challenging the young people to learn the German language for ease of communication when they get job opportunities there,” said PS Njogu.

She also called on Kenyans to embrace TVET’s due to the high demand of skilled labour both locally and internationally.

She said skilled labourers like electricians, carpenters, plumbers, masons and other construction workers are in high demand in Kenya and the diaspora noting that TVET is the way to go.

PS Njogu underlined the critical role that skill development and international exposure play in shaping the future of Kenya’s youth.

The Ujuzi Mashinani is the brain child of area Member of Parliament Mugambi Rindikiri and brings together students from five TVET institutions within Buuri Sub-County.

It equipps youth with essential skills and resources to foster their entrepreneurial and professional growth.

PS Njogu lauded the initiative for its commitment to enhancing the skills, vision and capabilities of Kenyan youth noting that it takes a lot of leadership skills and competence to initiate such a noble program.

She highlighted the importance of aligning training programs with current and future job market demands.

“The government is dedicated to creating a supportive environment that not only prepares young people for local job opportunities but also positions them advantageously in the global labor market.

Our aim is to ensure that Kenyan youth are well prepared to take advantage of opportunities locally and internationally,” said PS Njogu.

She hailed MP Rindikiri for providing opportunities for the youth to gain skills that will propel them toward a better future.

The PS said the government will work closely with TVETs and polytechnics to secure job opportunities for these students, particularly in the agriculture sector.

MP Rindikiri said he decided to launch the program after realising that majority of the youth were jobless and only idling at home, market centres and streets.

He assured them of his support until they completes their education and get jobs noting the youth are his responsibility.

He said their are a lot of job opportunities for the skilled labourers and urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the program.

“Today’s ceremony is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to support our youth.

This is just the first cohort. We will continue with this program to ensure that we have a pool of skills here which will enhance our income generation and the general economic development of our constituency,” said Rindikiri.

He said after the three-months course, all the graduands will continue enjoying his support in collaboration with other various government agencies and institutions.

Rindikiri said the program aims at equipping youth who could not advance in formal education but possess talent, with the skills to venture into various technical job spaces.

The three months skill based course is offered by TVETs and polytechnics.
