Leaders in the Mount Kenya East region have been advised to form their own political party in order to have bargaining power when it comes to the sharing of the national cake.

The Chairman of the Former Members of the County Assembly Forum and former Nyaki East MCA Martin Mworia aka “Kiongozi” said for any region or community to fully enjoy the national resources, it should have it own political party to negotiate for the goodies.

Speaking to the media in Meru town, Mworia said Mount Kenya region needs a very strong political party before going to the negotiation table with the national government.

He challenged leaders in the region to go back to the drawing board in a bid to ensure the area has it own political party noting that is the trend and direction the Kenyan politics has taken.

“The time is ripe for the mount Kenya region to have it own political party because that is the direction the Kenyan politics has taken. In order to negotiate with the national government, we need to have a structured tool. We need a strong political party to demand for our interests like other regions,” said Mworia.

He said former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was incorporated into the broad based government courtesy of his political party.

He said other leaders like the Principal Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua and Joseph Muturi all went into election and signed a memorandum of understanding with President Ruto using their political parties.

He challenged Meru governor Isaac Mutuma, Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njoki, former Meru governors Peter Munya and Kiraitu Murungi, professionals and traders from the region to unite and ensure they have formed a political party to advance their interests.

He particularly singled out Kiraitu Murungi who is reknown for forming political parties to be in the forefront of forming a new outfit for the region.

“You can not go to a race without a horse or to a dining table without a plate where you will be served. Raila is enjoying the national cake in the broad based government because he has a political party.

That is why I am challenging leaders in Mount Kenya east region to unite and form their own political party. That is the best and sure way of enjoying the national cake,” said Mworia.

He called on all the Mount Kenya east region leaders to seek an audience with President Ruto and demand for a dual carriage way that links Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties from Nairobi.

Mworia said they should also demand for the extension of the the railway line that stalled in Laikipia town in Nanyuki county.

He called on the newly sworn in Meru governor to unite the county for the sake of developments.

He urged all the Meru professionals and investors who had run away from the county to return in a bid to develop the area.

“Let me also advise governor Mutuma to handle the health sector with outmost care because it led to the downfall of former governors Munya and Kiraitu. He should always ensure the hospitals have enough staff and medication. He should stop any arbitrary transfers in all departments.

I applaud him for promising to provide a conducive working environment for all employees in Meru county. Many were traumatized and worked with a lot of stress,” said Mworia.

He lauded Senator Kathuri Murungi,MCA’s and other leaders for leading in the fight to liberate Meru county from poor leadership.
