Meru Kenya Kwanza leaders have warned PNU party leader Peter Munya against setting foot in the county to lead anti-government demonstrations.
Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Senator Kathuri Murungi, Meru Woman rep Karambu Kailemia and Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri said the Meru voters are fully behind the president and will not entertain any effort to lure them into the opposition demonstrations.
Speaking in Maua town when they joined ICT CS Eliud Owalo in launching a public WiFi hotspot, the leaders maintained that Kenya Kwanza government has no space for opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Senator Kathuri said Meru leaders were focused on delivering development instead of demonstrations
“What did Peter Munya do when he was a cabinet secretary for him to have authority to call for demonstrations? We will not allow demonstrations in Meru. We have resolved that all elected leaders in support of the president must work as a team. Our intention is to bring development,” Kathuri said.
The Senator said the 400,000 votes that president William Ruto garnered in Meru gives the residents a sense of ownership in the current government.
The sentiments were backed by CS Linturi who accused Munya of being used to disrupt President Ruto’s political stronghold in Meru.
“Raila Odinga will not be allowed to get into government by causing violence. Munya should know that we rejected Uhuru Kenyatta because he supported Raila Odinga. He should not try to sell his agenda here,” the CS said.
Ridikiri accused Munya of plotting to cause mayhem in Meru through demonstrations adding that such a move will not be entertained.
“I challenge Munya to show us a single project he did in Meru as Cabinet Secretary. He has nothing to show for his years as Cabinet Secretary apart from the KCC milk plant at Kangeta. We cannot allow demonstrations to destroy our businesses in Meru,” Rindikiri said.
CS Linturi said the government will continue dealing harshly with demonstrators saying they were out to sabotage the economy.
He said the cost of living cannot be addressed through demonstrations but improving productivity in the farms and industries.
“We brought subsidised fertiliser to enable farmers go back to their farms. Those demonstrating are terrorists and Kindiki should deal with them as such. Their only aim is to acquire power through the back door, which we cannot allow,” Linturi said.
Kathuri also claimed opposition leader Raila Odinga was plotting to join the government through destructive demonstrations.
On agriculture, CS Linturi said the government is providing driers and warehouses for maize farmers to ensure the country is food sufficient.
