Karumo Technical Training Institute has been closed temporarily following infighting and protests by students.
The trainees’ demos significantly disrupted operations and posed potential safety risks.
This comes a day after Tharaka TTI was closed indefinitely due to students protests.
In a circular dated October 17, 2024, Principal Flora Njura Kanyua informed trainees and staff that the decision was made after consultations with relevant authorities.
“There were issues among students which I can’t expose but we have closed the institution. Some students who have exams in a weeks time, will return earlier. We are working on resolving the issues,” Ms Kanyua said on the phone.
The management directed all trainees to vacate the premises by 2:30 PM on Thursday.
“No trainee will be allowed access after this time. Reporting dates for various groups have been set as follows: TVET CDACC Candidates will resume on 24th October 2024 while KNEC and Internal Exam Candidates on 31st October 2024,” the circular stated.
Sources disclosed that a simple fight between a National Youth Service (NYS) student against his colleague escalated to protests.
It led to groupings among students and incitement as each wanted to overpower the other.
