Meru woman Representative Karambu Kailemia has disbursed ‘s scholarships worth Sh8.8million to 374 bright but needy students.
The students who are on scholarships are in Form One to Form Four in various schools across the county.
Kailemia also distributed Sh20million to different Women and youth groups in the County. She said her office will not tolerate corrupt officers who demand kickbacks so that they can attend proposals sent by needy students.
“We are the ones who tolerate corruption and we have to kill it from the giver and the receiver. No one should ask you for even a coin so that they can process your forms. There will never be kickbacks in my office,” Kailemia said.
The Woman Rep also bought washing machines for youths to be used in car wash businesses, umbrellas for Mama Mboga and tents among other items that would assist members of various groups in their businesses.
“Be warned that if one of my staff is reported to have been bribed you will face the law. I am happy that I have so far not received such reports and I am sure we are headed for greatness,” she said.
Kailemia thanked President William Ruto for agreeing to increase funds in the National Government Affirmative Funds kitty because the office will now reach more vulnerable people.
Kailemia pleaded with the County and National Governments to build more wards in hospitals and employ psychiatrists to take care of mental health cases which were on the rise.
“We will continue conducting seminars for mental health awareness. Soon, we will have girls’ football in all the wards. I am a mental wellness campaigner and I will see to it that we assist our people,” Kailemia said.
