Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a plot to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome and Supreme Court Judges from office is in advanced stages.
He said the plot is part of the government’s plan to suppress independent bodies of the government including the opposition.
Speaking at EAPC church in Meru town on Sunday, Mr Gachagua said the impending removal of the Chief Justice would be similar to how the plan to hound him out of office was plotted.
Mr Gachagua said he would continue solidifying the Mt Kenya region with the key focus being to defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

However, politicians from Meru gave Gachagua’s church event a wide berth, pointing to the intense political battle for the soul of the region between the former DP and the current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
“We are aware of a scheme to remove Justice Martha Koome from office. The withdrawal of the Chief Justice’s security detail is meant to intimidate her into resigning. We urge the Chief justice to remain steadfast. We will stand with her,” Mr Gachagua said.
He alleged that the scheme also includes the disbandment of the Supreme Court ahead of the general election.
“Instructions have been given from the high offices paving the way for the removal of Martha Koome. A budget has been set aside and all the petitions against the Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme court are part of the machinations of the state to put up a bench that is amiable to what those in power want,” he said.
Mr Gachagua appealed to the International Community to enhance monitoring of Kenya arguing that democracy was under siege.
“We urge the international community to keep an eye on Kenya. Parliament has been neutered. If they capture the judiciary through removal of the Chief Justice and Supreme court judges, this country will slip into a dictatorship,” he said.
The former DP further called for speedy establishment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“The IEBC should be in place. The Kriegler Commission recommended that the IEBC be fully constituted three years to the election. Actually, registration of voters should be a continuous process so that all Kenyans have an opportunity to participate in the elections,” he said.
Mr Gachagua said he will continue to consolidate the Mt Kenya region ahead of a major political announcement this month.
He hit out at President Ruto saying the electorate in the region has since cut ties with the current administration.
“The president messed by betraying the Kenyans who put him in office. He deceived the mountain and we cannot help him from the problems of his own creation. There is concerted effort to divide the mountain but we are wise and will not allow them. If we are divided, we will be oppressed,” Mr Gachagua said.
The former DP was accompanied by Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa, Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, John Kaguchia (Mukurweini) and Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central).
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu said Gachagua’s allies will continue calling out the President Ruto administration for various ills and lack of development programmes.
