Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lauded President William Ruto’s government for the reduced external borrowing and the proposed Housing Fund which he says will improve the welfare of Kenyans.
The DP observed that it is through continued support from leaders on the legislative measures that the Kenya Kwanza Government has proposed at the National Assembly that the country should wriggle out of the public debt burden.
“We want to urge our leaders to continue being steadfast in their support as this will allow the country to get away from public debt and fund its own development and recurrent expenditure” said Gachagua.
This year’s Madaraka day theme, empowering sustainable National development through cooperatives and micro small businesses, the DP said, comes when public reforms especially in the coffee, tea and dairy subsectors are in top gear.
“Reforms aim at restoring the dignity of our farmers in line with the bottom-up economic transformation agenda. It is in this regard that we have convened a special summit of all coffee stake holders in the neighboring county of Meru next week to come up with practical interventions to put money in the pockets of our farmers,” added the DP.
Gachagua also hinted that the summit will shortly be followed by a conference for tea, macadamia, avocado, miraa and muguka to enhance sustainability of the sector through cooperatives to uplift small scale farmers to economic independence and prosperity.
On her side, Embu governor Cecily Mbarire thanked the Government for choosing the county to host the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations, citing remarkable development projects that had been prioritized in the county by the National government.
She observed that through the cordial relationship between the devolved unit and the National government, major development programs had been achieved.
Among the projects are plans in Housing project, strengthening the ICT department and agriculture through issuance of subsidized fertilizer citing that the county was expecting bumpy harvest.
Mbarire who is also the UDA Chairperson expressed gratitude that Kenya Kwanza had greatly supported infrastructure improvement among them recently reconstructed Moi stadium where the celebrations were held.
