President William Ruto has nominated the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji as the next Director general of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Mr Haji, whose name has been forwarded to parliament for approval, is expected to replace Major General (Rtd) Philip Kameru who is retiring.

Kameru was appointed to the position in 2014 and has spearheaded the war against terrorism.

Mr Haji comes into the NIS, at a time when the agency has been under sharp focus over the Shakahola deaths.

He served in the NIS as deputy director before joining the DPP six years ago.
