Deputy President Kithure Kindiki surprised residents of Igegania in Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County when he advanced the bottom up economic empowerment gesture by gifting a chicken seller Sh100, 000.

Kindiki was astonished by the courage and commitment of a man only identified as Wathuku, a chicken seller within the area.

In a video clip going round on Social media, before the deputy President gifted Wathuku, the young man had jumped on the dias to reach Kindiki as he addressed residents but security officers swiftly intercepted and took hold of him.

Kindiki quickly intervened and Wathuku was allowed a chance to sit at the VIP section until the second in command finished his speech.

After his speech Kindiki asked?
“Where is the chicken seller guy”, as the crowd roared in appreciative laughter.

“His name is Wathuku Wa Nguku?” The crowd respectively responded yes.

“Has he not exerted a lot of effort? Is this not a great commitment to earn a living?” They said yes in affirmation.

“Is this not the true definition of what bottom up means? I donate to him Sh100, 000 to boost his hustle,” the deputy President said.

Kindiki stretched his hands in his pockets and gave the Sh 100,000 cash to the young man who had already joined him in smiles.

Kindiki who was accompanied by majority leader Kimani Ichungwa MPs; Elijah Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North), Alice Ngang’a (Thika Town), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Simon King’ara ( Ruiru) , Anne Wamuratha (Woman Representative, Kiambu), John Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), GG Kagombe (Gatundu South), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), Japhet Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North) among others.

Leaders immediately said that Wathuku would be escorted by police for his security as he left the podium tossing the cash up above his head in celebrations.

Kindiki had held an Economic Empowerment Programme at Igegania primary school grounds in Gatundu North.

Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration will extricate thousands of small scale traders, among them, the bodaboda riders and Mama Mboga from stagnation and help improve their livelihoods.

He said in Kiambu County, the Government is constructing 27 new and modern markets that will have amenities such as cold storage facilities, sufficient and spacious trading spaces to accommodate more traders and ICT hubs to boost e-commerce for the youth.

“We now have enough resources to complete stalled road projects in Kiambu county and across the country, as well as expanding electricity connectivity to more new households,” Kindiki said.
